The Keys

The house keys are available from family members.  There are three keys: two for the main entrance (the gate and the door) and one for the door on to the terrace on the top floor.

The keys for the front door require a special process to be duplicated so please take care not to lose them.  An emergency set is available in Marseillan.

Note: When leaving a key in the lock on the inside of the main door, retract it part way to allow someone to unlock the door from the outside. Otherwise they can't get their key fully into the lock.

Important: The shutters on the lower floors MUST be CLOSED and LOCKED during the night and when you are absent.
Otherwise our  house insurance is not valid.

Security

To reduce the chances of break-ins, close the windows and/or shutters on the main floor (kitchen/dining room level) when you are away and during the night.  In the past thieves have entered the house by climbing in from the top of their car.

Hot Water

Activating on Arrival

The water heater is on the ground floor near the stairs and is normally turned off when the house is unoccupied.  The switch controlling electrical current to the hot water heater is indicated by a picture of a water heater tank (inside the yellow square).  Flip it UP to activate the heater.  To the right of the switch is another switch (Multi9 CT) which must be set on (DOWN) as well.

Parking

No parking is allowed in The main square every Tuesday morning (market day) from 0700 to 1300.

Because the house is in the centre of the old town, parking is not available at the premises

There is also a large parking lot at the bus stop on Rue de la Plage.

Regulated parking is enforced in the main square via Parking Disks (see below). The disk has two sides: one for the morning and one for the afternoon. If you park in one of the restricted areas use the disk as follows:

  • Set the beginning time for the time interval closest to when you leave the car. The disk will tell you the latest time you can leave the car parked without risking a fine.
  • Put the disk (proper side facing up) on the LEFT hand side on dash of the car.
  • Get back before the time expires or you risk a parking ticket.

Purchasing Disks

You can purchase a parking disk at one of several merchants in the town centre. The Maison de Presse typically has them.

Instruction Booklets

Instruction booklets for most appliances are stored in the accordian file located in the buffet in the dining room.

Kitchen Appliances

Refrigerator
The refrigerator is left turned off (set to zero) with the doors ajar when the house is not occupied.  When turned on use the setting "3."

Stove
The stove has a durable glass top that can scratch.  Please take care when cooking.  The controls work counter-clockwise for the two burners on the left and clockwise for the two burners on the right.

Stove Hood
The stove hood has an integrated light and variable speed fan.

Microwave
The microwave is a combination microwave, convection oven and grill.  Please refer to the instruction booklet for further information.

Electric Heating

Each room contains an electrical heater with two controls on the upper left hand side.  The top control activates the heater (push DOWN to activate and UP to turn off.)  The second slider controls the amount of heat emitted: the higher the number, the more heat produced.

Please ensure that all room heaters have been turned OFF before you leave.

Exception

There is a special oil-based heater plugged into the wall on the ground floor.  It remains permanently on all winter to control the amount of humidity in the house.

Terrace

Access the rooftop terrace is via the stairs.

Please make sure that fires in the fireplace are not too large and that completely out when you leave the house.

There is an electric Bar-B-Q on the terrace.  The basin must be filled with water to provide an electrical contact for the element.  The aluminum drip tray floats on the water and the required level of water is indicated by an indentation in the corners of the the water basin.

Clothes Washer and Dryer

You will find the clothes washer and dryer on the ground floor near the stairwell.

The dryer uses condensation instead of exhausting moist air from the unit.

There is a container underneath the dryer to collect the condensed water.  Once the container is full the dryer will not run until the container has been emptied.  Please ensure that the container is emptied when you are finished using the dryer.

You have to clean the lint trap located on the left side inside the tub after each load,

Local Markets

There are several local markets that typically take place from 0800h to 1300h every week.  You will find local meat and produce as well as a wide selection of other goods being offered fro sale.

Tuesday Marseillan
Wednesday Clermont L'Heuralt, Sete (recommended)
Thursday Agde (recommended)
Saturday Sete, Pezenas (recommended)
